Welcome to my Washington DC vacation!  I took Hubby with me and we stayed at the Marriott Suites in Bethesda, Maryland for a week and took some tourist side excursions to Washington DC.  Then he lazed around in the hotel while I went to see GH stars and friends on Saturday and Sunday.

We arrived in Bethesda on Saturday afternoon and took it easy at the hotel on Saturday night.  On Sunday morning late, we took the Metro into DC and toured the National Mall to see the memorials and monuments.

We missed getting a ticket to go up in the Washington Monument.  I'm not an early morning person and apparently the tickets sell out.  LOL.  We never made it up, but while we were visiting the base, suddenly 3 helicopters appeared over the Lincoln Memorial.

Two of them kept going but one broke away and flew overhead...

Then set down in front of the White House.  Too Cool!

Wonder if he was coming or going?

We stopped and took a few pictures and as we were walking away, the helicopter took off again. So either a drop off or a really quick pick-up.

Nice sunny shot of the Washington Monument.  This was really our only sunny day.  The rest of the week was either cloudy or just plain rainy, until we were stuck in the hotel with the GH guys, of course!

Changing of the Guard

The guards must be between 5'10" and 6'4" with proportionate weight and build and must have an unblemished service record.  In addition, the guards must undergo rigorous testing and keep their uniforms and arms in immaculate condition.  At each changing of the guard, an elaborate inspection takes place as a part of the ceremony.

Each Tomb Sentinal follows the same ritual during their guard.  They must walk 21 steps down the black mat, turn east for 21 seconds, turn north for 21 seconds, then repeat the process in the opposing directions.

The Rotunda displays the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.

We had a little bit of time after we viewed the National Archives, so we strolled down to the US Capitol Building and explored around outside, taking some pictures of the building and surrounding statues.

On Thursday evening, Kurt and I took a 3 hour cruise on the Odyssey line up the Potomac.  It was a nice, relaxing way to spend the evening after the long days of site-seeing.  I booked us a table by the window and we viewed the lighted monuments from the water for the entire cruise and pampered ourselves with a bottle of champagne and listened to the live band.  The couple behind us were celebrating their marriage.  Odyssey Cruises link

On Friday, we spent the entire day in the Museum of Natural History.

Most of you know that I have a Masters in Geology but may not know that Kurt studied Paleontology as an undergrad and grad student, so we were totally in our element in this musem!  I could have stayed in here for days!

And now for the main events!!!

Greg Vaughan

Saturday, October 21, 2006

Greg mentioned that Becky had missed the flight.  He said that she had the pull to have all their scenes moved up to earlier in the day so they could leave early for the airport and that they were calling each other and giving each other tips on traffic on the way to the airport but she got stuck in traffic and didn’t make it.

I’m clean now, it’s kinda boring.  I cut my hair.  I think Lucky’s having 2 babies (looks to me like Lucky thinks he’s having 2 babies).

Talked about his wife going shopping and buying a Burberry coat ($$$).  Said that she was a natural beauty.  Awwww….

Q:  If Liz & Lucky do not work out, who would you like to work with?  Greg thinks that the single life for Lucky would be the safest bet for now, though he doubts that the producers would go that route.

Q:  Do you feel like Lucky is the underdog when it comes to dealing with Jason?  Yes, absolutely.  He mentioned the scene where Lucky apologizes to Jason.  Hmmm…the cop apologizing to the hitman.  Yeah…

Q:  How is it with Genie back?  She was so overwhelmed on her first day.  The media was everywhere.  Luckily, she didn’t have any lines in the first couple of days, she was just sitting in the chair (complaining that it made her butt hurt.  LOL.)  Greg said that they actually sprung for a photo shoot for the family with Tony, Genie, Julie and Tyler.  And he plugged the Soapnet special for the 25th Anniversary of Luke & Laura “Something old, Something new”.

Q:  When is Lucky going to find out (about Jason & the baby)?  I don’t think anybody knows but as far as his reaction…something about the Tasmanian devil.  LOL.  Greg commented that John Ingle came up to him and told him to start making room for his Emmy.  Greg told him to slow down.  Greg loves what he does.

Q:  What if both of the babies are Lucky’s?  Lucky will take responsibility, but his family will always be with Liz.

Q:  about Kirsten Storms?  She’s having such a great time playing this role now.  She likes playing the bad girl.  He likened her to Devil in Prada.

Q:  Do you think that Lucky can keep his edge?  This was my chance to make Lucky my own.  The story was written for Lucky but what I chose to do with it was up to me, Greg.  He talked a little bit about getting himself into character during the drug story.  He tried to isolate himself at work.  He didn’t talk a lot to the other actors before or after work.  He didn’t wear makeup or have his hair styled.

Q:  about Jason beating up on Ric?  When will Lucky do it?  LOL.  Greg said that he saw Rick on the set and he was all made up as beat up and he said “What bus ran you over?” Rick – “Jason”.  Greg said that Steve’s really been working out, and he’s this big, burly guy wandering the GH halls.  Hopefully, soon, I’d love to beat up Morgan.

Q:  Doesn’t it feel like Shadybrook is like the Marriott, I mean Lucky’s in rehab and he can just pop down the hall and visit with his mother, why is that?  Budget.  He talked about his apartment with Liz and how it used to be someone else’s (Courtney & AJ’s).

Q:  When’s your romance cover coming out?  (LOL.  Joke…)  Greg made reference to his “I can’t believe it’s not butter” commercial.  I haven’t seen it yet!

Q:  I used to watch you on Y&R, what was that like?  Hot.

Ted King

Saturday, October 21, 2006

Lorenzo’s conquistadores – Ted announced the ladies that have been chosen to help out (to unite his different fan bases), and took photos, from left to right Lin, Kristen, Robin, and Cheryl, not pictured.

An announcement was made from the Ted King: the Actor and his Craft board  that a gift from Ted fans of $2100 has been donated to the Desi Geestman foundation.

As is becoming tradition, Ted read to us...Wordsworth this time.

Q:  about the birth scenes?  How’s your head?  LOL.  I had a great time with those.  It actually got a little too realistic.  The producers were watching from above and came down and said that when Ted was between Robin’s legs checking her dilation that it didn’t quite look right on the screen...a little too graphic.  LOL.  We asked Ted about the baby when he was at our table and he mentioned that the baby is actually Robin’s for now.

Q:  What’s it like working with all the vets?  Tony is a consummate professional.  If the line doesn’t work then he changes it.  It’s a challenge and great for his character.  He wishes that Luke & Lorenzo could be more friendly like in the beginning but alas there’s a woman between them.  Tristan – he’s great, very serious, committed…

Q:  What happened with Anna?  I don’t know.  He was led to believe that they would have a story over the summer but his understanding was that GH couldn’t work out the scheduling conflicts that she had with her show on Style.

Q:  How do you feel about Luke & Robert interfering with Lorenzo being a father when they aren’t exactly good father figures themselves?  Lorenzo will be addressing this with Luke.

Q:  Are they going to address Lorenzo’s earlier history?  I’m always fighting for that, more depth, more background.  Right now, it’s all action.  There is a scene with Skye coming up where he will talk about it a little.

Q:  Don’t you think that Lorenzo needs a friend, a male friend?  There’s Diego, but I guess that’s not the same.  He’s always been a loner.  Everyone he gets close to disappears.

Q:  about the name Sophie Germaine and the character of the same name who is a mathematician in the play Proof?  Why hasn’t she surfaced?  Ted saw the play but her name was not chosen from the play.  He mentioned that they had the idea that he would be involved with a woman at Oxford and he came up with the idea that she would be French.  He also said that the writer told her that he was saving the character of Sophie.  (Hmmm…well my comment is that if he’s saving her, it better be for a good story!)

Q:  Boxers or briefs?  I revealed that in a magazine article.  (Guess I haven’t read that one, dammit!)

Q:  about an upcoming story with Diego, I haven’t been keeping up with the rumors/spoilers lately so forgive me if I didn’t quite understand this one.  Apparently there’s yet another rumor that Diego is going to die circulating.  Answer – not as of Tuesday.

Q:  comment about his work with Rick, fan likes them together -  They’re both devious characters, they have a constant lack of trust between them, and Ric, he gets this gleam in his eye…he’s crazy!

Q:  Do you read the boards?  No.  He told us a story about another actor that went onto the boards (who is now gone), and said that after they were reading them, they would come in and be depressed, try to change, and it just didn’t work out well.

Q:  Was there more to the story about Lorenzo changing Skye & Lulu’s charts?  No, that was it.  They just wanted to remind the audience of who Lorenzo really is.

Q:  What is your favorite music?  Ted mentioned his new music review column for SOD.  He said that at first he was going out and buying new albums but that now they were sent to him because they want the publicity of his reviews.

Q:  I’ve heard that Maurice and Steve are the pranksters on the set.  Does that make it hard to work with them?  More Steve than Maurice, and no, it’s not hard.  We crack on each other which actually helps us when we get into a scene.

Q:  Outside projects?  Ted said that he was thinking about going out for some other projects in November.

Q:  How about Lorenzo & Alexis?  It would be interesting since his brother left her in the snow…lots of animosity in that relationship.

Q:  When did you learn Spanish?  I’ve been studying since I lived here.  (Ted used to live here when he was around junior high age.  Some of the members of the family he stayed with attended the event.  He considers them his family).

Rebecca Herbst

Saturday, October 21, 2006

This was Becky’s first appearance solo so Debby asked us to give her a warm welcome.  Greg had asked us earlier in the day if we were attending and showed a sweet concern that we welcome her solo debut.  He even stopped by later on to make sure she was doing alright.

Q:  How come when everyone’s crying, no one has a Kleenex?  I guess it’s not pretty to see snot rags.

Q:  What happened to Amy?  Amy went away.

Q:  Who’s the baby’s father?  Watch next week.

Q:  Will Liz & Lucky get back together?  Well, the network likes Liz & Lucky together but neither do they want it to be all happy and boring…It’s more fun to cheat with the hottest guy on daytime.  It keeps things interesting.

Q:  What does Michael do now?  Well, he went to law school for 2 years but now he has his real estate’s license.  He’s been staying at home with their 2 kids, but Ethan’s just started kindergarten so we’ve had to have some changes to our schedule (Becky’s talked about their home schedule at previous events that I’ve recapped).

Q:  I loved the dresses that you designed for yourself, Natalia and Kimberly for the Emmy’s.  Have you ever thought about doing that more commercially?  Designing clothes is my passion.  I would but with work and 2 kids, I’m a little too busy right now, but I would like to in the future.

Q:  Favorite movie, book, TV show?  I like comedies, like Overboard with Goldie Hawn, and I also liked the Silence of the Lambs type movies, thrillers.  Mostly all I have time to watch are the kids’ shows.

Q:  In the Jason & Liz love scene, there was a line where Jason told Liz that she was beautiful, we were wondering if that was adlibbed because of your reaction to it?  It was written, actually, but she said that she reacted that way because she had thought that Steve was going up on his line when he did it, but then he didn’t and then they didn’t replace the scene in the final cut.  They used it anyway.

Q:  What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you on the set?  She talked about the apartment set with Liz & Lucky and the swinging doors that separate the living/bedroom area and the kitchen.  She went in the kitchen when Nikolas and Emily were over and she turned back around to come back out and the swinging doors hit her in the forehead.

Q:  Comment on how natural the relationship between Liz & Jason feels?  Becky attributed that to the real friendship that exists between her and Steve.  She mentioned that they are really good friends and that she’s really good friends with his wife and he’s very friendly with her husband, Michael.

Q:  about Ric taking Liz out to lunch?  Becky mentioned that she had been working with Rick quite a lot the last couple of weeks.

Q:  How is working with the kids?  Some of them were a little unreasonable at times, but they’re kids, they don’t know what’s going on.  She mentioned that the kid that currently plays Cameron is one of her neighbor’s children so she knew him before and therefore he’s comfortable around her.  She also talked about the little boy who plays Morgan and how he talks all the time.  She said that he doesn’t usually have any lines but he just starts talking and won’t stop so they lead him off the set.  One of the audience members said that it was cute when Ingo would just keep on carrying on the conversation with him.

Q:  We know that you and Rick Hearst actually have the same last name, Herbst, have you ever figured out if you’re related?  Well, we found out that both of our families were from the New York area, but we chose not to find out anymore.  LOL.

Q:  You have a beautiful complexion, do you mind sharing how you keep it up?  Well, everyone’s skin is different and what works for me might not work for you, but the best advice is to be consistent with whatever you do.  I wash my face every morning and every night.  I use Purpose cleanser and every morning I put on a  Purpose cream that has an SPF15, and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize, every night.

Q:  Do you keep up with the other characters’ stories?  No, but I may watch GH or OLTL during lunch.

Q:  Do you read the message boards?  Never.

Q:  What are you filming now?  We’re working on the Laura story.

Q:  When is Liz going to slap Maxie?  Well, I already did, but I actually feel that Liz is more mature than that.  She’s not going to haul off and slap this young girl.  Becky feels that Liz is above all that.

Q:  Do you run lines with Steve?  Yes, Steve actually is one of the few that likes to run lines.  He likes everything, no matter how mundane, to be the best that he can be.  He treats everything life or death, even wishy-washy filler scenes.

(Greg stopped by after the Q & A to check on Becky and stayed to pose for some pictures.)

Q:  Was there a time when you were frustrated and wanted to leave GH?  Not really.  Because I have a life.  When I’m not working everyday, I take the time to spend with my kids and I’m grateful for it.

Q:  Can you confirm that you’ve signed a new contract?  Yes, I signed for 3 more years.

Q:  Have you had a chance to do any site-seeing in DC, if so what?  No, not really, we just got here earlier today.  Becky mentioned that in their rush to get to the airport, she had forgotten her rings.  So her only excursion had been to Nordstrom’s to get some rings so that her hand didn’t feel so naked.  She also mentioned that they were moving on Wednesday.

Q:  Have your kids participated in the Christmas show?  Well, I wasn’t in the Christmas show last year, but this year, probably so.

Q:  Who’s the better kisser?  Jason or Lucky?  It’s all the same.

Q:  about Liz’s art and did Becky contribute to it?  No, I had nothing to do with that.  Her paintings were done by an artist who was hired to do them.  I’m not a painter.  Someone mentioned the drawing that she had done for charity and Becky said that had turned out much better than she had thought it would, but that she didn’t consider herself an artist.

Q:  Did you design the Nurse’s Ball T-shirts?  No, that was Liz.

Q:  Why don’t they have the Nurse’s Ball anymore?  Well, we got a new EP and the budget was too big so that was one of the things that got cut.  Plus the cast members complained about it.  That caused some questions from the audience to which Becky qualified that some of the cast members complained about the extra time that they had to stay at work to rehearse numbers and that others had to stay for the entire thing even though they didn’t have a number.  She said that it was a lot of extra work, especially since you didn’t get paid any extra for it.

Q:  Do you have a favorite moment from over the years?  Becky didn’t but the questioner did.  She listed a top 5 which prompted Becky to include the scenes in Wyndham’s with Jonathan Jackson’s Lucky and the paint fight in the boxcar.

Q:  What about Liz’s sister?  We just don’t even talk about her.  She’s with Amy.

Q:  Carly?  Becky likes working with Laura.  She mentioned that Laura talks really fast and she used to try to keep up with her rhythm in scenes and it would make her start to hyperventilate, so I told her to slow down.  LOL.

Q:  about the girl’s night out at Jake’s scenes?  Jason was really nervous about that.

Rick Hearst

Sunday, October 22, 2006

Debby came to the front to introduce Rick and she mentioned that Ric Lansing has been taking a beating so we should show Rick how much we appreciate him, someone at the 2nd table mentioned that we should stand, so we all stood up and cheered when Rick came in and he was very appreciative of the standing ovation.

Q:  How much longer is Ric gonna take getting kicked around?  As long as he’s Ric Lansing.  Rick went into one of his long diatribes which mentioned Sonny and Jason as the anti-heroes of GH and Lorenzo & Ric as the villains on the show.  Ted and I are both in this position.  “Better the devil that they know…”  Rick also said that there was a lot of reaction to that ass-kickin’ I got.  Some say deserved…Ric Lansing is not your normal villain.  He evokes this intense hatred in people.  He mentioned a fan event that he attended with Tamara Braun his first year at GH, and how he had this female fan come up to him and say “What do you think you’re doing?”  People are passionate about this.

Q:  Do you keep in touch with anyone from the cast of GL?  No, not much.  Ron Raines, I guess.  I see most of them around Emmy time.  Oh, and Melina, of course, I see all the time, my family is her family.

Q:  comment from a fan that she loves how Rick can make her hate Ric so much in one scene then in the next scene, he’s so sweet…  That’s schizophrenia.  LOL.  I’ve been here for four years now (applause!), I have to think about the situation that I’m in sometimes and what it calls for.  Sometimes it’s hard to go from one extreme to the other and make any sense out of it.  Ric Lansing is a guy who tries to be all things to all people and people who do that always fall short, always fail.  He mentioned the scene where he was out having lunch with his ex-wife, all concerned about her situation, while his current wife is at home vomiting from her latest bout with chemotherapy.

Q:  Did you know you were going to be Sonny’s brother?  No, I was supposed to be Lily’s brother.  One day the writers were upstairs and saw him on the monitor and thought he was Sonny.  We were sworn to secrecy when they decided to make him Sonny’s brother.  He mentioned Maurice coming on set and giving a knowing wink and smile.  This is the man, Maurice, that pulled me close after our first scene together, and told me that we were going to be doing some cool things together.  He’d just give me this look, we know something no one else does.

Q:  Do you consider Ric Lansing a good guy or a bad guy?  He’s the anti-thesis of who he’s playing against, and he can turn on a dime, and has to depending on who he’s playing against.  He remembers a bunch of stuff going down at the beginning and thinking “Son of bitch, when did I become the town pariah?”  I don’t mind being the bad guy but he can’t show all his cards all the time because then he would look stupid, and it would also make the other side look stupid.  He mentioned the situation with Sam and “saying” that they had slept together for revenge and he was just like “No!”

Q:  What if Ric had an evil twin?  You guys haven’t seen half the crap I’m going to be doing.  Ric is on the line between nefarious and just plain psychotic.  And as far as the twins thing, I think they need to find a new approach for that story.

Q:  Do you ever say you won’t do something?  I say “I don’t get it”.  Show me the road, lead me to the path, so I know where my stumbling around is going to lead.  But sometimes, you just have to go with it and find something in the scene, being an ass versus the wig-giving husband.

Q:  How come Sam isn’t taking any of the blame?  Rick – I don’t know…was it guilt?  Was it good?  Was he better than Jason?  LOL.  Rick did an impression of Jason’s “you slept with my enemy” line which was kinda scary.  What am I?  John Wayne Gacy?  I don’t know.  It’s not like he had her smell a vial of vapors and made her do it…Maybe Ric was trying to get back at Jason, Rick likened it a little to similarities in the movie LA Confidential.

Q:  If you were on Seinfeld, which character would you play?  I don’t know.  An audience member suggested Kramer, without the funny hair.  Yes, that it, and you haven’t seen my funny hair in the morning.  He talked about his hair standing up on one side in the morning and looking normal in one profile and crazy in the other.

Q:  Is there hope for Ric & Alexis?  I think they need to take a couple of steps back and re-evaluate.  From some of the scenes coming up this week, it’s not looking good.  He mentioned that when the truth comes out about Ric & Sam that Ric does a lot of the talking.

Q:  about giving Lucky his job back?  One reason for that, to get Liz away from Jason.  Period.  Jason and Ric think of each other as poison.  Ric can’t have that with Sonny so he goes after Jason.  Ric would rather have Lucky with Liz than Jason.  Ric’s still trying to fix what he broke.

Q:  How are your kids?  Nicholas is in “Mame” now.  He mentioned that he’s a freshman in an upper class theater class.  Cameron will go down that path but Rick says that he’s ruthless, and I mean that in a loving way.  LOL.

Q:  about the Ric & Molly scene at the hospital?  Rick says that on the one side Ric is completely crazy psychotic but on the other hand he loves his kids, awww….so he’s not all one-sided which makes you feel for the character, relate to him.  He said that the baby that plays Molly is very close to him.  He and Molly have some scenes coming up where they’re trying to take her away from him, NO WAY!  He would fight that.  He said that when they took the baby away from him, the baby actually cried and that made it very real.

Q:  someone asked him about Alexis and the afterthought comment reference to Molly?  That’s harsh but it’s all about Ric, and how he was raised.  Keep in mind that everything is about HIM!  Molly’s his girl, she’s his chance.  Alexis doesn’t treat Molly different than Kristina, it’s just how Ric perceives it because of his own personal experience (with Sonny), how he was treated.

Since I hadn’t seen GH this past week while I’ve been in DC, Ric was happy to go over the fight with Jason and what exactly went down.  Coming home and watching that scene after having Rick describe it in detail was really awesome.  And boy!  Did that baby cry when she was taken from him or what!?!

What was left of the RE group by the time Rick finished visiting all the tables...just kidding, Rick actually did very well, for Rick.  LOL.  After the event, Sue, hubby & I went to the restaurant downstairs for lunch and guess who also had lunch there!

Fabulous trip!
